The cargo (frozen squid) imported by the insured suffered a severe damage due to the abnormal container temperatures. The insured rejected to accept the cargo. The estimated value of the damaged cargo was about USD90,000.00. The insurer required us to conduct an on-site survey, ascertaining the cause and extent of alleged damage to cargoes.

Upon receipt the instruction, our surveyor immediately headed for the survey spot and promptly communicated with the insured’s representative, in order to coordinate with the discharging arrangement and to prevent any hasty decisions to abandon the cargo. Simultaneously, with a handful of experience in handling similar cases, our surveyor suggested that the damaged cargoes should be categorized according to the extent of the damage.
When the discharging completed, our surveyor together with the parties concerned took sample of the claimed cargo for defrosting and testing. Following the assessment, the insured put forward a claim of USD56,000.00 as compensation. Since the liability in this case was clear, our surveyor actively pushed the case going forward in favor of the insurer, and guided the insured successfully claimed the loss against the carrier by providing the unit price according to the commercial invoice. The insurer was only needed to pay the additional portion of the damaged cargo loss according to the unit price of the policy. Both parties involved in the insurance claim agreed to the undersigned’s handling process and result.
